Address Verification Service (AVS)

When a customer enters their billing address during a transaction, AVS compares:

  • Street address number (e.g., 123 in 123 Main St)

  • ZIP/postal code (usually 5 digits in the US)

Post Rules

You can setup rules to either accept or deny certain AVS codes in the transaction response:

Fraud Protection > Configuration > Edit Rule > Post Rules

Common AVS Codes

CodeMeaning
YFull match: Street and ZIP code match
APartial match: Street matches, ZIP does not
ZPartial match: ZIP matches, street does not
NNo match: Neither street nor ZIP match
UAVS not supported by issuing bank
RSystem unavailable or timed out
SCard issuer does not support AVS
GAVS not supported internationally (used outside U.S.)
BStreet matches, but postal code not verified
CStreet and postal code not verified
DStreet and ZIP match (used in UK & international AVS)
MStreet and ZIP match (international equivalent to Y)
