Address Verification Service (AVS)
When a customer enters their billing address during a transaction, AVS compares:
Street address number (e.g., 123 in 123 Main St)
ZIP/postal code (usually 5 digits in the US)
Post Rules
You can setup rules to either accept or deny certain AVS codes in the transaction response:
Fraud Protection > Configuration > Edit Rule > Post Rules
Common AVS Codes
Code | Meaning |
---|---|
Y | Full match: Street and ZIP code match |
A | Partial match: Street matches, ZIP does not |
Z | Partial match: ZIP matches, street does not |
N | No match: Neither street nor ZIP match |
U | AVS not supported by issuing bank |
R | System unavailable or timed out |
S | Card issuer does not support AVS |
G | AVS not supported internationally (used outside U.S.) |
B | Street matches, but postal code not verified |
C | Street and postal code not verified |
D | Street and ZIP match (used in UK & international AVS) |
M | Street and ZIP match (international equivalent to Y) |
